Imovie For Mac Os Sierra
So after installing iMovie today, it crashed right away and even after deleting the preferences file, same issue. I did a quick search and it appears that other people are having the same issue. EDIT: I upgraded to 10.3.3 using the FULL installer and still no dice. Can anyone tell me if the problem persists on the 10.3.4 beta? I am using my MacBook Pro with the lid permanently closed and a Samsung 1080p monitor (yes, lame, I know) that's connected via a Satechi USB-C hub's HDMI port.
Sep 25, 2017 - For those unfamiliar, Apple's HEVC codec is new to macOS High Sierra and iOS 11, making for significantly smaller file sizes. In fact, Apple. Is there some kind of workaround? How is this possible that 6 months after High Sierra's release and a full THREE point releases, Apple's OWN iMovie software won't work properly? Click to expand.Well, I upgraded to 10.3.3 and not only does it still not work, it actually got even worse! Haha what a joke. Now, when I try to open iMovie, it crashes immediately. On 10.3.2 it stayed open for a few seconds with the New Project page showing and the What's New window.
I upgraded with the FULL installer, by the way. I disagree with the notion that it's bad to stay on 'old software'. I'm grateful every day that I'm still on iOS 10, for example, with iOS 11 having had so many poorly performing iterations, it's downright embarrassing. So what do I do now?
I want to use iMovie and the latest and the greatest OS X is, for all intents and purposes, incompatible, and this after a full three point releases post the initial product release. Do I really have to go back to 10.12.6??? Well, I upgraded to 10.3.3 and not only does it still not work, it actually got even worse! Haha what a joke. It will be supported with security updates and bug fixes, as needed, until October 13, 2020. Latest version of ms word for mac.

Do I really have to go back to 10.12.6??? Under High Sierra v10.13.3 I have reverted to using iMovie v9.0.9 which was the last sort-of-stable release we liked. It had pretty good set of features which inexplicably were often later removed by subsequent iMovie versions. As a precaution, before doing a clean install of High Sierra I zipped my iMovie v9.09 and archived the 'iMovie' folder under.Library/Application Support.
After the High Sierra install I unzipped my old iMovie in Applications and copied the iMovie settings folder to.Users/yourUserName/Library/Application Support/iMovie (not sure if this was necessary, but didn't hurt). Then ran iMovie and created a brand new blank project in case various internal settings needed to be reestablished in that manner. The folder.Users/YourUserName/Movies/iMovie Projects/ was created and I made sure my old iMovie projects were copied there so that iMovie would see and open them properly (you have to restart iMovie for them to be visible). With that done, my old iMovie Projects were listed in the projects library and opened/played properly in the application. I was even able to export --> movie and have it generate a 720x540 m4v that played properly as well. Have not tried editing an old project yet to see if all the features work, but so far it's encouraging. Click to expand.Hi, I appreciate the help!
Well, I kind of gave up and went back to 10.12.6, and iMovie works again with the external monitor and the MacBook Pro in clamshell mode. I guess I could go through a bunch of experiments and figure out an older version of iMovie to work with, but frankly, I don't care to spend my time that way. I want it to 'just work', how Apple used to advertise its products. I also don't care to try out a bunch of different USB-C hubs, because the one I have works fantastically well with almost all ports in use. So again, it's a High Sierra issue, not my hub's problem. I'd love to be back on 10.13, but it had better shape up before I take another shot at it.
